New Year New Flavor

Updated: Aug 12, 2018

A messy baby is a happy baby! This is my 8 month old daughter and she now reaches for EVERYTHING we are eating! So, I figured what better way to start off the new year than with blueberries?! Who doesn't love blueberries? I mean carbs and antioxidants? Yes, please!

In our house we eat mostly vegan/ vegetarian meals and we make a lot of our own food from scratch. I don't go out of my way to make meals specifically for my daughter but it appears she doesn't really mind eating the same thing we're eating... so it works out.

Feeding a new little human can get pretty messy, as you can see, but there's something magical about handing over the bowl (which I pretty much always end up doing). The way she lights up when she's exploring a new texture and a new flavor is, to me, one of the most beautiful things.

Maybe I'm just excited because she hasn't really enjoyed any fruits until now. My go to foods for her are usually squash and avocado, not as messy or as interesting as blueberries. But honestly, this got me so excited for her first "Cake Smash"! Either way, the magic doesn't come from the food, it's comes from curiosity, a new adventure and finding new love through their eyes. Which is my favorite thing to shoot because it's so pure and in the moment. I don't know how much of this she actually ate but if nothing else, it was a great sensory activity and another good excuse for me to pull out my camera :)

Oh, and let's not forget to mention this natural lighting. If you're into photography yourself, you know it's all about how you can play with light. If you're not into photogrpahy but you want to learn, take note as that is the biggest tip I can give you to start. Light, light, light!

I hope this inspires you to eat something new, make a mess, or take out your camera. Either way, Happy New Year! From our family to yours, we wish you many well wishes in 2018 and many, many, delicious blueberries.
